ISTE: Opening Day

June 25, 2012 — Leave a comment

Today was the official kick-off day for the ISTE 2012 Conference. We had an opening session that was done wonderfully with a video clip motivating the audience for the week. This session also consisted of two amazing emcees that dressed as super hero duos throughout the session to keep the audience entertained. It was good stuff. Of course, all of the people behind-the-scenes had a hand in the talent too! Kudos on this.

After this session I was able to take part in a Tweet Up. If you aren’t familiar, this is a “meet up,” of all the people that wanted to meet face-to-face from the Twitter world. Pretty cool actually. It was great to meet some of the people I follow and also meet people that follow me. The best part was being able to network and find additional people in the crowd to follow. People wrote their Twitter screen names on their name badges. This made it easy to open Twitter on the iPad and instantly follow them. A lot of great connections were made, thus making this the highlight of my day! Learning more.

Now, its time to go back and process through all of the people that I began following today. Very important to filter what I need and what I don’t need so my feed isn’t overloaded.

Some of the hashtags that I found at the booth today worth sharing are below.

If you are an event organizer, and particularly one planning for a conference of any size you should check out Sched.org today. This is a great free tool for you to input all of your sessions into, speaker bios, session descriptions and much more. It allows for everyone to have their own Sched account. You can even assign different permission levels. Great management team collaboration tool. It isn’t an app, but it is mobile browser friendly so your participants can easily access their customized itineraries. Check it out today!

ISTE: Saturday

So glad to have an opportunity to be here in San Diego for the ISTE 2012 Conference. It promises to be a great one. I’m also glad to spend some time with some peeps from school.

Our group was able to attend a San Diego Padres game last night as well:

We had a lot of fun, even though the Padres didn’t win. Oh well. Please stay tuned this week, there is a lot more to come from ISTE 2012. Follow the hashtag #iste12 on Twitter if you want to keep up. There is a variety of activities and sessions you can participate in remotely as well.
